This broadwinged bird does not have the same feather colorations as the other in the previous two photos, which, based on same, we determined to be a Red Tail breed. This fellow or gal would appear to be a basic black hawk but according to websites that claim knowledge, such hawks do not hang out in Kansas. This hawk was in the very same area as the Red Tail. Could they be mates? I am not a hawk expert, but I do not recall seeing too many of them in the sky at once.

We saw this fellow on our Saturday morning walk. He was sitting out on this road near the river and downtown, simply blowing scales on his french horn. Lawrence does have more than its proportional share of interesting characters.

These aren't real conestoga wagons. They are cutout silhouettes propped up on a ridge near Overbrook, KS. They look pretty cool from the highway.

I was amazed to discover the devotion that this flower inspires. My mom likes them.

My wife took this photo from the car on a recent trip up to Yankton, SD with her sister and Mom. The reflection in the water is nice.
