I guess they did plows before they expanded into tractors and snowmobiles.

Ryan Shealy

A snap from the Royals vs. Angels game Wednesday evening. Ryan's been doing pretty well for KC since coming over in a trade. The Royals had even been doing better...oh well... the season will be over soon.

Squirrel Feeder II

Squirrel Feeder I

I think this is actually a hummingbird feeder in our neighbor's yard -- but I've seen a lot more squirrels taking advantage of it than hummingbirds.

Pronoia

The antidote for paranoia. This is a wonderful book. You might remember Rob Brezny from Real Astrology fame. The book is based on the belief, as stated on the cover, that the universe is constantly conspiring to shower you with blessings. You just gotta get outta the way.

Java Break

Java Break is one of my favorite Lawrence coffeehouses, because it is subterranean. There is something I like about basements. The wifi is pretty consistent and the coffee is good. I also have a special place in my heart for coffeehouses that DON'T serve decaf.

The inside of a nice little internet cafe in Lawrence. I like the colors. The corn chowder was good too.

75th Street Brewery growler

This was a really good brown ale. I think it was called Possum Brown Ale or something like that.

The Merhawk

This fishy version of the Jayhawk sits just around the corner from the Miro version in the previous pic. They are outside the Jayhawk Bookstore on KU campus.

Jayhawk

"Mascot Miro" by Susan Younger. A quick Google tells me that Joan Miro was a Spanish surrealist. Find a few of her images and you'll understand this representation.

Bas-relief @ KU

These are featured on the facade of Lindley Hall on KU campus. The one on the right has an interesting description of male leg muscles. It reminds me of greeting cards I've seen which seemed to be intended for gay men.

Beginning in 1849...

"Beginning in 1849, there plodded up the southern slope of Mount Oread a vast emigration bound for the golden land of California. One branch of the great California and Oregon Trail thus passed over the very ground now part of the university campus and a many camp fire gleamed on summer nights from the crest where now throngs of students tread." Plaque by Dr. Howard R. Briggs, President, American Pioneer Trails Association. Setting by Class of 1916.

Sculpture

I think it's the angle that makes this sculpture of the birds look strange. We didn't go down to look at it up close.

KJHK

This is the student-run station at KU. If you doubt that it's a student-run station, just listen to the newscast at 6. The music can be pretty interesting sometimes though.
